Good day!
We've survived the first week! Great job!
Now, on to the math!
This week, we'll begin a study of ratios (SOL 6.1). We will learn how to write them, simplify them, and name them from real-life situations. While we're doing this, we'll also be reviewing division and multiplication (skills NECESSARY if students are to excel at simplifying fractions).
Besides the usual things you'll see each week in these posts (highlights of the week, homework, vocabulary, announcements), you will also, on occasion, see student-offered content. We're gearing up to use a newly-offered application from Google (Classroom), and the opportunities presented for kids to create, research, and publish is a warmup for that. If plans crystallize, your child will have created, by the end of the year, an online textbook that can be used in their future years of mathematics education. And that will be awesome.
Homework:
Mon- Pg 238 Text, #4-7. Watch videos (below); notes are due Thursday.
Tue- Sheet (odd)
Wed- Sheet (even)
Thur- Pg 238 Text, #9-19 odd
Fri- None; if multiplication quiz is below 85%, make corrections AND show proof of studying!
Vocab:
Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Sum, Difference, Product, Quotient, Ratio, Simplify, Fraction, Decimal, Percent, Decimal Point

This Week's Videos: Please watch and take notes. I will be checking that notes are done on THURSDAY. If you are unable to view the videos, see me so we can arrange a time to watch them! (Hint: You can watch Videos 1 and 2, OR you can watch Video 3. Those choices will provide the same type of content. Or, you can watch all of them and move on with your life.
